The role

As a Senior UX Designer at Openfield, you will be responsible for creating designs with a superior level of exploration, sophistication, and strategic awareness that respond to user needs and open the door to additional research learnings. You will ensure that all of the user story requirements are met during the design phase. A great UX Designer will understand how and why accessibility is imperative to successful EdTech products, and back their designs with data.

At Openfield you will work closely with Researchers and other UX Designers to design world-class experiences for our clients. You will be supported by the UX Research and Design Leads for guidance and growth.


  • 4-7 years experience as a UX designer
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Complete understanding and expert knowledge of the following
    • UX and user-centered design principles and processes
    • User/usability research and testing
    • Wireframe, design, and prototype software expertise
  • Proven ability to design holistic experiences with long term strategy
  • Proven ability to mentor early to mid-level designers and onboard others onto projects


  • Lead projects from discovery to design to delivery
    • Create rich, thoughtful, accessible designs that align to users’ needs and exceed client expectations
      • Understand and distill user feedback
      • Utilize data to communicate rationale behind design decisions
      • Ensure design solutions meet stated objectives and priorities
  • Manage and balance the demands of a workload that spans multiple products
    • Delegate and manage selected work to one or more designers
    • Ensure the output meets the same quality standards you hold yourself to
  • Set strategies for building effective yet efficient prototyping solutions to improve testing outcomes and the quality and depth of data gathered during testing
  • Understand how to scale documentation details for the given feature scope, timing and budget constraints
  • Maintain a positive relationship with peers, clients, vendors, and engineering teams
    • Facilitate exercises that build institutional knowledge, excitement, and actionable plans for product groups and teams
    • Present challenges and opportunities revealed by research and design exploration
    • Simplify the decision-making process by adapting and executing our UX process
  • Collaborate with the Openfield leads to foster and evolve an inclusive culture that impacts the organization as a whole
    • Influence digitally inclusive design and accessibility across all Openfield projects by participating in the adaptation and evolution of UX best practices
    • Be a subject matter expert (SME) on design exploration and co-creation techniques and raise awareness among peers and clients
  • Represent Openfield as experts in the UX and EdTech space
    • Assess unarticulated needs from clients and users to contribute to product growth
    • Advocate for Openfield’s process when working with clients
    • Internalize research findings and relate them to client work
    • Contribute to the creation of Openfield content articles and case studies
